July  7:  The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry 2023  1hr 48mins

This film is based on the well-received novel by Rachel Joyce. Harold’s pilgrimage begins unplanned but with a very clear, heartfelt goal in mind to reach a former colleague who is in hospice.  Excellent British production!

July 14: Remarkably Bright Creatures   2026   1hr 51mins

Sally Fields stars in this film labeled a mystery that is much more than a mystery.  It’s a heartwarming story of grief, healing, and the bonds of friendship across generations and across species.  Alfred Molina is the voice of the octopus who plays an important role in these people’s lives.

July 21: Operation Mincemeat  2021   2hrs 8mins

This is a movie about a famous event during WWII but it is not anything like a blood and guts depiction of the war.  This is a back story type telling of the efforts of a team headed by two men with different views who manage a strategic effort to advance the cause of the allies.  It’s a story of brain power and nerves of steel – not guns this time!

July 28:  Guys and Dolls   1955    2hrs 30mins

Our classic film of the month is a musical full of memorable numbers including the title song sung by Nathan Detroit (Frank Sinatra!) and so many more.  Marlon Brando is Sky Masterson as a big-time gambler trying to win the girl, Jeanne Simmons.  Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie a 7.7/10 and calls it “…an escapist delight.”  Great for a hot Mazatlán afternoon.  Enjoy!
