The sky was the color of bruised steel, and I stood at the edge of the pier, toes curled over the damp wood. Behind me, the life I knew—safe, predictable, small—pressed against my spine like a weight I could no longer carry. Ahead, the sea churned, restless and wild, whispering promises I half-believed. I wasn’t running away, not exactly. I was simply… on the verge. Of leaving. Of staying. Of becoming something I couldn’t yet name…
